Mangalsutra

Mangalsutra

Why is this post?

Last year when we were buying Mangalsutra, a question popped up in mind, what is the significance of 2 cups in Mangalsutra, are these cups important or black beads? What is the significance? Although I asked this question to many of elders, friends, but, didn't get any concrete answers. In an attempt to find answers, starting this blog by collecting as much info as possible.

Note that, whatever is written below is info I have collected and not necessarily that, I believe this. I hope to find concrete answer and post it as conclusion. :)

Significance

The significance to the Mangalsutra was first given by Adi Shankara in his famous book Soundarya Lahari

Importance of Mangalsutra

  •  Due to the mangalsūtra the woman remains conscious of Dharma, duty and rules. Wearing mangalsūtra is an important conduct for a married woman. This is called code of Righteousness for women. Due to this the woman does not indulge in wanton behaviour and her conduct remains ideal.
  • Due to the mangalsūtra the woman and others are conscious of her marital status. Mangalsūtra is a marital bondage. Its main objective is that the woman should remember this sacred bondage and there should not be any immoral behaviour on her part. That others should also be conscious that the woman wearing a mangalsūtra is a married woman and she should be respected properly is also the objective behind it.
  • Due to the mangalsūtra the consciousness of the husband in the form of Shiva remains constantly awakened in the woman.
  • Mangalsūtra is symbolic of Shiva and Shakti. In this, gold is in the form of Shakti and the structure of stringed black beads is in the form of Shiva.
  • Mangalsūtra is an ornament that attracts Divine Principle in highest proportion. In a mangalsūtra both the cups are hollow from one side and are raised from the other. The mangalsūtra is worn facing the hollow side towards the body. The Divine Principle is attracted in the voids of the cups in higher proportion than in any other ornaments.
  • Through the mangalsūtra the woman gains Energy of Desire, Action and Knowledge. The mangalsūtra is a link that provides Shakti in the form of the Absolute Fire Element (Tēj) to the woman to actually perform a task.

Structure of mangalsūtra with a kanṭhamaṇi and the gold cups

  • The length of the mangalsūtra should be such that it reaches the Anahat-chakra or the centre of the chest. As the length of the mangalsūtra is up to the Anāhat-chakra, due to the sāttviktā of the mangalsūtra the increased Raja-guna in the woman is reduced. As a result, the attitude of detachment is generated in her. With this it becomes possible for the woman to dwell in the present constantly.

Why is the hollow part of the central cups of the Mangalsutra placed towards the Anahat-chakra?

In the centre of the mangalsūtra there are two cups. The cups should be round and there should be no design on its front.

•Round shape is associated with zero, that is, with the Brahman consisting of void. The ability to absorb and emit the waves of specific level as per the need of the person is more in the round shape compared to the other shapes.

•Round shape is symbolic of Energy of Knowledge.

•Round shape is associated with the Sattva-guna in the form of Shiva-Shakti.

•The central point of the round shape provides waves in the form of striking Shakti (Energy) whereas the raised part is associated with Brahman in the form of Shiva.

On both sides of each cup there are two round gold beads. This structure is associated with the Energy of Knowledge.

The subtle effect of the structure is:

•The waves of emotions are activated in the Anāhat-chakra of the woman.

•The waves of Energy of Knowledge are attracted towards the circular figure of the voids of the cups of the mangalsūtra.

•The waves of Knowledge assimilate the waves of the woman’s emotions.

By this process the woman’s actions (karmas) become non-actions (akarmas), that is, the law of action-and-fruit is not applicable to the karmas done by the woman because of which the awareness of doership of the woman reduces.

The four petal flowers above the cups of the Mangalsūtra:

•Above each cup of the mangalsūtra, there is a figure of a four petal flower. This is associated with the Action energy.

•The vibrations of the woman’s Energy of Action solidify in the round beads and are in the forefront in functioning as per the need.

•It helps generate a protective sheath near the Anāhat-chakra of the woman.

Why should there be no design on the raised front part of the cups?

If there is no design on the front part of the cups, there is no restriction on the ability of the structure to absorb and emit the Absolute Fire Element (Tēj-tattva) in gold. Similarly the gold cups and the bead of the mangalsūtra being design-free, its ability to absorb and emit the Chaitanya in the Universe increases. Hence, the woman is protected from the attacks of negative energies.

Why are two strings of black beads present in the Mangalsūtra?

The two strands of black beads of mangalsūtra symbolise Shiva and Shakti. From the task performed by the union of Shiva and Shakti, one gains benefit in the form of Chaitanya. This gain is depicted in the form of the central gold cups that join the strands. The two strands of mangalsūtra symbolise duality. Duality means continuity of task. The two strands of the beads are used from this perspective also. The rectangular shaped void created in one part of the two strands of black beads attracts the waves of Energy of Desire. The nine black beads stringed in each part of the strand symbol-ise the nine forms of the Primal Energy (Ādishakti). The black beads strung in the gold cord collect the negative vibrations of the attack of negative energies, on the body of the woman from time to time and destroy them.

There are seven parts of nine black beads each in both the strands mangalsūtra of the mangalsūtra. In order to demonstrate these parts, four gold round-shaped beads are arranged in a square shape as a central link. With this the Shakti Principle in the woman remains in a constantly activated state and it is protected from the attacks by negative energies.

Importance of structure of Mangalsūtra

In the mangalsūtra there are two gold cups in the centre, one gold bead on each side and then black beads are strung. In each of the two strands of the mangalsūtra nine beads followed by two gold beads are strung. Due to the black beads strung in the mangalsūtra the woman is harmed to some extent.

•Waves of black energy associated with the Absolute Earth and Water element are attracted to the black beads of the mangalsūtra.

•A cover of these waves is generated around the body of the woman.

•Through the black beads waves of black energy are emitted in the atmosphere.

Due to the covering of black energy waves there is distress like pain, giddiness, restlessness etc. Considering the harm, one may wonder why the black beads should be used. Though there is 30 percent harm due to the black beads strung in the mangalsūtra, there is 70 percent benefit also. The reason for this is that mangalsūtra is beaded with a thin wire of gold. The gold wire destroys the distressing vibrations present in the Universe through its Energy of the Absolute Fire element (Tēj-Shakti).

The reason for the destruction of distressing vibrations by the Tēj-Shakti of gold: The use of black beads and gold in mangalsūtra is akin to amulet, that is, talisman. For alleviation of distress by negative energies, an amulet or a talisman is worn around the neck. The black thread of the amulet attracts the black energy and the Holy ash in the amulet destroys it. In a mangalsūtra black beads are used in place of black thread and gold in the place of Holy ash. When a woman with more than 50 percent spiritual level wears a mangalsūtra the ability of the gold in it to emit the Absolute Fire Element (Tēj-tattva) remains activated.

•The structure of the cups and the beads strung on both sides of the mangalsūtra are associated with the woman’s Energy of procreation. One cup and the beads at its sides make a figure of a triangle. This figure keeps the woman’s Energy of procreation continuously awakened. Energy of procreation is the Energy spreading enthusiasm continuously in the entire Universe through the medium of Creation. Thereby, she constantly remains in a loving mode.

•The round shape of the mangalsūtra awakens the woman’s Central channel (Sushumnā-nāḍī). The elliptical shape of the mangalsūtra is associated with the unmanifest Energy of Action of Srīvishṇu. This shape awakens the Central channel (Sushumnā-nāḍī) of the woman. Hence, it helps the prākruti in the form of woman to merge with Shiv in the form of man. As per the design of the mangalsūtra, its effect is expressed either at the saguṇ or Nirguṇ level.

Why do men don't have to wear a Mangalsutra?

Every Conduct for men and women has been propounded with a specific objective. If wearing a mangalsūtra is Dharma for women, wearing a janēu(sacred thread) is Dharma for men. On this, some people may question why is there no custom for men to wear a mangalsūtra?

Since in Karmakānḍa, man is recognized as a father-figure, the possibility of adultery by him is less. The nature of men is basically strong, determined and conducive for leadership. Hence, in the performance of Karmakānḍa, man is recognised as a father-figure. Due to the authority as a father, the possibility of adultery is less. In society however, men are more adulterous than women. If this be so, why is it said that the possibility of adultery by man is less ?

Compared to a woman, a man is less emotional, more introverted and rational. So there is less possibility of his being adulterous / wilful. Yet various Conducts have been prescribed for him in Hindu Dharma. In Kaliyuga, men and women are equally adulterous. In this situation, what should men do to acquire the same benefits as that of wearing a mangalsūtra? The answer is that when the man carries out his father-figure duties and inculcates an attitude of listening to others, it will foster unity in the family. Holy thread (janēu) worn by him will remind him of his father-figure duties.

Chat with GOD

God: Hello... Did you call me?
Me: Called you? No.. who is this?
God: This is GOD. I heard your prayers. So I thought I will chat.

Me: I do pray. Just makes me feel good. I am actually busy now. I am in
the midst of something..
God: What are you busy at? Ants are busy too.

Me: Don't know. But I cant find free time. Life has become hectic. It's rush hour all the time.
God: Sure. Activity gets you busy. But productivity gets you results.
Activity consumes time. Productivity frees it.

Me: I understand. But I still cant figure it out. By the way, I was not expecting YOU to buzz me on instant messaging chat.
God: Well I wanted to resolve your fight for time, by giving you some clarity. In this net era, I wanted to reach you through the medium you are comfortable with.

Me: Tell me, why has life become complicated now?
God: Stop analyzing life. Just live it. Analysis is what makes it complicated.

Me: why are we then constantly unhappy?
God: Your today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday. You are worrying because you are analyzing. Worrying has become your habit. That's why you are not happy.

Me: But how can we not worry when there is so much uncertainty?
God: Uncertainty is inevitable, but worrying is optional.

Me: But then, there is so much pain due to uncertainty..
God: Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.

Me: If suffering is optional, why do good people always suffer?
God: Diamond cannot be polished without friction. Gold cannot be purified without fire. Good people go through trials, but don't suffer. With that experience their life becomes better not bitter.

Me: You mean to say such experience is useful?
God: Yes. In every terms, Experience is a hard teacher. She gives the test first and the lessons afterwards.

Me: But still, why should we go through such tests? Why can't we be free from problems?
God: Problems are Purposeful Roadblocks Offering Beneficial Lessons (to) Enhance Mental Strength. Inner strength comes from struggle and endurance, not when you are free from problems.

Me: Frankly in the midst of so many problems, we don't know where we are heading..
God: If you look outside you will not know where you are heading. Look inside. Looking outside, you dream. Looking inside, you awaken. Eyes provide sight. Heart provides insight.

Me: Sometimes not succeeding fast seems to hurt more than moving in the right direction. What should I do?
God: Success is a measure as decided by others. Satisfaction is a measure as decided by you.Knowing the road ahead is more satisfying than knowing you rode ahead. You work with the compass. Let others work with the clock.

Me: In tough times, how do you stay motivated?
God: Always look at how far you have come rather than how far you have to go. Always count your blessing, not what you are missing.

Me: What surprises you about people?
God: when they suffer they ask, "why me?" When they prosper, they never ask "Why me". Everyone wishes to have truth on their side, but few want
to be on the side of the truth.

Me: Sometimes I ask, who am I, why am I here. I can't get the answer.
God: Seek not to find who you are, but to determine who you want to be. Stop looking for a purpose as to why you are here. Create it. Life is not a process of discovery but a process of creation.

Me: How can I get the best out of life?
God: Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear.

Me: One last question. Sometimes I feel my prayers are not answered.
God: There are no unanswered prayers. At times the answer is NO.

Me: Thank you for this wonderful chat. I am so happy to start the New Day with a new sense of inspiration.
God: Well. Keep the faith and drop the fear. Don't believe your doubts and doubt your beliefs. Life is a mystery to solve, not a problem to resolve.
"All we are is a result of what we have thought."

Rs 1 = USD 100

Year : 2050

Place : IBM , USA
(Two Americans Talking)

Currency Conversion Rate : INR 1 Rs = USD $ 100

Alex: Hi John, you didn't come yesterday to office?

John: Yeah, I was in Indian Embassy for stamping.

Alex: Oh really, what happened, I heard that nowadays it has become
very strict.

John: Yeah, but I managed to get it.

Alex: How long it took to get it stamped?

John: Oh, it was nasty man, long queue. Bill Gates was standing in
front of me and they played with him like anything. That's why it got
delayed. I went there at 2 AM itself and waited and returned by 4 PM .

Alex: Really? In India , it is a matter of an hour to get stamped for USA

John: Yeah, but that is because who in India will be interested in
coming to USA man, their economy has been booming.

Alex: So, when are you leaving?

John: Anytime, after receiving my tickets from the client in India and
you know, I will be getting a chance to fly Air-India. Sort of dream
come true.

Alex: How long are you going to stay in India .

John: What do you mean by how long? I will be settled in India , my
company has promised me that they will process my Hara Patta ..(green
card)

Alex: Really, lucky person man, it is very difficult to get a Hara
Patta in India .

John: Yeah, that's why, I am planning to marry an Indian girl there.

Alex: But you can find lots of US girls in Hyderabad , Bangalore and Mumbai.

John: But, I prefer Indian girls because they are beautiful and cultured.

Alex: Where did you get the offer, Hyderabad?

John: Yeah, salary is good there, but cost of living is quite high, it
is Rs. 2000/- for a single room accommodation.

Alex: I see, that's too much for US people, Rs.1/- =$100/-. Oh God!
What about in Bangalore, Mumbai?

John: No idea, but it is less than what we have in Hyderabad. It is
like the world headquarters of software

Alex: I heard, almost all the Indians are having one personal Robot for help.

John: You can get a BMW car for Rs. 5000/-, and a personal Robot for
less than Rs.7500/-. But my dream is to purchase Ambassador, which
costs Rs.2 ,00,000/- but has got a lovely design.

Alex: By the way, who is your client?

John: Subbarao and Apparao Associates, a pure Indian company,
specialising in Embedded Software.

Alex: Oh, really, lucky to work in a pure Indian company. They are
really intelligent and unlike American Bodyshoppers who have opened
their Fly-by-night outfits in India . Indian companies pay you in full
even when you are on bench.

My friend Paul Allen, it seems, used his bench time to visit Bihar,
the most liveable place in India , probably world. There you have full
freedom and no restrictions. You can do whatever you want! I
wonder how that state has perfected that system.

John: Yeah man!, you are right. I hope our Americaalso follows their
footsteps.

Alex: How are you going to cope with their language?

John: Why not? From my school days I have been learning Hindi as my
first language here at New York . At the Consulate they tested my
proficiency in Hindi and were quite impressed by my cent per cent
score in TOHIL i.e. Test of Hindi as International Language.

Alex: So, you are going to have fun there.

John: Yeah, I will be travelling in the world's fastest train, world's
largest theme park, and the famous Bollywood where you can see actors
like, Hrithik, Shah Rukh Khan and all. Esselworld is also near
Bollywood.

Alex: You know, the PM is scheduled to visit US next year, he may then
relax the number of visas.

John: That's true. Last month, Narayana Murthy visited White House and
donated Rs. 2000/- for infrastructure development at aSiliconValleyand
has promised more if we follow the model of High-
Tech City of Bangalore . Bill Gates also got a chance of meeting him.
Very lucky person.

Alex: But, Indian government is planning to split Narayanamurthy's Infosys.

John: He is a hard worker man, he can build any number of Infosys like
this. Every minute he is getting Rs. 1000/-. It seems, if you keep all
his money converted as Rs. 100/- notes you can reach Pluto.

Alex: OK, Good Luck John.

John: Same to you Alex. And don't go to Consulate in a "Kurta Pyjama"
because they will think you are too Indianised and may doubt you will
never come back and hence your Non-Immigrant Visa may get rejected.
But don't forget to say " Namaste, aap kaise hai " to the Visa officer
at Window 5. It seems he likes that and will not give you a visa if
you don't greet him that way.

LIFE (The Art of Living)

The most challenging, intriguing & very complex question I have ever faced in my Life is “What is Life?”

Although, this question is buzzing me from many years; one thing I have realized is, I won’t get rid of this monster until I get the answer. I am sure many of you, would have also faced the same question, few lucky fellows might have got the answer & few others would have ignored it due to the lack of time, & rest might have convinced themselves that they are not some Sadhu Mahatma to find answer for this. There is another category of people, who doesn’t even have time to allow such questions to trouble their life. This category of people may look lucky at a first glance, but when they look back into their lives’ they might regret for wasting their precious time.

Does this mean, I have got answer now? Well, read further…

To get the answer, I had discussion with my friends, put this question many a times in my Gtalk status bar, gone through few articles, but never got a convincing answer. Then, one midnight when I was walking on sea shore of Hong Kong, I told myself, enough is enough, today I have to get the answer.

I started my analysis by looking at the common man’s life, what is their life? Get up in the morning, rush for everything, reach office, finish the work, come home physically tired & mentally stressed, some days have some good conversation some other days yell for something, have dinner & sleep. Is this the life I am looking for… naa, definitely not! Then, I thought about some great personalities, like scientist, “Newton”, what is their life? Day & night do some research; spend the whole life in inventing something, scarifying the personal life. Then what do they get by being so great, yeah one thing they get is satisfaction. This “Satisfaction” is very important. Does this mean, we all have to become scientists?? naa… whatever work we are doing, if we are satisfied at the end of the day, it is worth of doing. Then, the next question is, am I satisfied with my work, answer may be “Yes/No”. As a software engineer, I would be happy if my program runs without bugs, but the satisfaction someone gets by doing some social work is entirely different by running a programs or project successfully. Does this mean, we all have to resign our jobs & start doing some social work… hmm “NO”. I don’t want to sacrifice my personal life by doing social work so early in my life. Then, I thought about the life of Sachin Tendulkar, he earns lot of money, everyone loves him, respects him, is that the ideal life? But, then playing cricket is his job as I write programs. So, he is also like a common man, does his duty, comes home & sleeps. Last person’s life, I imagined is of Prime Minister’s, “Dr. Manmohan Singh”, oops scary!! He not only has to find answers for his questions, but he has to deal with the entire country’s problems, compromise his ideals for the sake of his party. No, I am happy what I am. Am I? hmm…may be no…

Then, I devided “Life” into two parts, personal life, & professional life.

Firstly, what is personal life, what do we do actually in this part? Well the answer is, stay with parents, have our own family, wife/husband, then kids, take their responsibilities, grow them up, see them get married, have kids, then one final day, Good bye to this life! Is this the life I am looking for… answer is definitely “No”. Then thought if answer is “No”, why am I living, shall I jump into the sea now? Hmm…don’t have courage. But this is “The Life”, I can’t escape from it. Only thing I can do is, make it more interesting. Next question is how to make it interesting, well, we can make it interesting by living every moment of our life, spend good time with friends, partner, children, parents, pets, etc., Now, it depends on person-to-person that, what is the definition of “Living every moment of life, Spend Good time”. Well, according to me for most of us it would be, “Be Happy always, Laugh from your heart, Be satisfied, Give some time to yourself to think about your life”. But, Causion! If you give time to think about your life, then you may have to go through all this, what I am going through…

Secondly, what is professional life, why do we work? The truth is we work for money. Although, money is not everything in our life, but without money, we can’t have the life that we want to live. It should not happen that, we start considering our work as some burden, thinking money is our necessity & we have to work. Better start enjoying the work. One thing that needs to be kept in mind is, “We work to Live, Not, Live to work!” Once we start enjoying our work, we would find new dimension to our life. If, we always have something more to achieve, we would always find work (life) interesting. Best way to live the life is, Challenge it.

Now, to conclude this article; “What is life?” Well, “Life is all about Living it!!” It is up to the individual how each lives his/her life. According to me, life can be better lived by pursuing your hobbies, like Photography, Drawing, Writing Novels, Travelling etc., your hobbies are the ones that, you really never get bored of.

“Be Happy, Be Satisfied”.

God...Devil

One day, a professor of a university decided to defy his pupils. He asked, “Did God create everything that exists?”
A student answered bravely: "Yes He did."
"Everything?" asked the teacher.
"Yes, everything", was the answer of the student.
"In this case, God also created evil, correct? Because evil exists." said the teacher.
To that, the student had no answer and remained in silence. The teacher was delighted at the opportunity to prove one more time that faith was only a myth. Suddenly, another student raised his hand and asked: "May I ask you a question, professor?"
"Of course" was the answer.
"Does cold exist?"
"Of course" answered the professor "Did you never feel cold?"
"Actually, sir, cold does not exist. According to studies in Physics, cold is the total and complete absence of heat. An object can only be studied if it has and transmits energy and it is the heat of an object that transmits its energy. Without heat, the objects are inert, incapable to react. But cold does not exist. We created the term cold to explain the lack of heat."
"And darkness?" continues the student.
"It exists", replied the professor
"Again, you’re wrong sir; darkness is the total absence of light. You can study light and brightness, but not darkness. The prism of Nichols shows the variety of different colours in which the light can be decomposed according to the longitude of the waves. Darkness is the term we created to explain the total absence of light."
And finally, the student asked:
"And evil, sir, does evil exists? God did not create evil. Evil is the absence of God in people’s hearts, it is the absence of love, humanity and faith. Love and faith are like heat and light. They exist. Their absence leads to evil."
Now it was the professor’s turn to remain silent.

The student was ALBERT EINSTEIN

In Divine Mathematics, Zero = One = Infinity

The Vishnu Sahasranama contains the names of Vishnu that were evolved by seers over time. Three of the 1,000-plus names listed are: Shunya or Zero, Eka or One and Ananta or Infinity.
In mathematics, this would be expressed as 0 = 1 = infinity. Tulsidas says the name is always the thing. In ancient societies the name of a child was chosen with much deliberation. The names of the Lord in the Vishnu Sahasranama are not born of frivolous fancy: they are meant to mean what they mean.
The above equation therefore merits close scrutiny. It is relevant to note that among the names, there is no such thing as higher and lower. In fact, ranking names as ‘higher’ and ‘lower’ is counted among the 10 types of sins relating to names: nama-aparadha. Shunya, Eka and Ananta are therefore equal, which is what the above equation states.
But how can the numeral one be equal to infinity? Are they not on the opposite extremes of the number line? The integers are only notional nodes along the number line which is otherwise a continuum. There is no such thing as fractions. Each fraction represents a point on the number line that is as legitimate as the nodal points: 1/2 for instance is as much a point on the number line as, say, 1 or 7. In other words, each fraction is in reality an integer.
To understand this, take a sheet of paper. It is a whole; it is 1. Tear it in two halves. Each half is 1/2. This is only relative. Otherwise, each half is an independent whole, a one. How do you know that your original sheet of paper was not one half of something?
Likewise, if you tear the half sheets again into two, you get a total of four ones. This process can go on ad infinitum. In effect, you have created an infinite number of integers between 0 and 1. Your original sheet of paper — your original 1 — is now infinity. Eka is Ananta!
Likewise, zero can be understood as being one. How? 1 = 1/1 = 1/infinity = 0. Inversely, 1/0 = infinity. This validates the equation we began with, 0 = 1 = infinity. Vishnu is equally Shunya, Eka and Ananta. The difference between zero and one is the difference between the un-manifest and the manifest. This holds true for all numbers, because all numbers are products of One.
Everything is ultimately Vishnu, which name literally connotes ‘the allpervading’. In advaitic (nondual) terms, everything that we can see, the entire phenomenal (saguna) world, has a common substratum which is the attribute-less (nirguna) Brahmn, the Great Shunya, the all-creative Zero.
What does ‘equal to’ imply? In mathematics, it means that two given entities are perfectly comparable. In advaita, ‘equal to’ would imply not two distinct entities but two manifestations of the same reality. Two is an illusion, maya. Nothing is ‘equal to’ any other thing: each is the other thing.
If everything is zero or infinity, what happens to the number line? Maya is not only illusion, it is also the ‘truth of illusion’. Maya is not an aberration of creation; maya is functional to it: existence (srishti) would collapse without it, hence our number line with integers and fractions.

Ekadashi Vrata

Yogic Psychology: - fasting to clear the energy system

Ekadashi Vrata: -
Fasting with the phases of the moon

It is not advisable to fast from food if sick, diabetic, under a doctor’s care, or taking daily medications that require food.

Above all else... Know Yourself!

In India, the eleventh day after the full and new moon is called Ekadashi.

There are two per month, one each in the bright and dark half of the month.

You count the day after the full or new moon as the first day. Example in 2004: the new moon is April 19th, the 20th is the first day after, so the eleventh, Ekadashi will be April 30th. The two Ekadashis in May 2004 are the 14th and the 30th.

Ekadashi is known as a sacred day. It is believed that loads of negative karmic reactions are removed if fasting, prayer and meditation is observed on this day. However, Ekadashi is an individual expression, one that is best approached with sound sense and an understanding of our personal capabilities.

Choosing to refrain from food is a physical, mental and spiritual discipline, tapas, that burns up habits of addictive behaviour. If you are not sure about going without food or it is not an appropriate day for fasting (perhaps you need to be too active to go without food), you could use the day mindfully, to tune into awareness of a habit that you might wish to alter; -

Ø To refrain from watching television

Ø Choose not to use electricity

Ø Choose not to speak or try not speaking excessively,

Ø Perhaps switch off your phone or

Ø Refrain from texting

These are traditional days of spiritual quietude when we could choose to be mindful and seek to engage in peaceful pursuits, where possible refraining from strenuous work. Nurturing activities include meditation, reading soul-stirring literature, walking in nature, or enjoying the company of mindful friends.

Fasting: -

On normal Ekadashis, fast from beans, grains and cereals

On Nirjala Ekadashi: total fasting including fasting from water. (Though complete fasting from food and water on every Ekadashi is highly recommended)
Ekadashi fasting combined with yoga, leaves us feeling vibrant and healthy, not fatigued. Physically, fasting detoxifies the body, gives the digestive system a “rest”, and allows us an opportunity to set aside a day of healing and peacefulness during our otherwise busy lives. From an Ayurvedic perspective, especially if one is fasting entirely, or even just taking water, the stools absorb the toxins in the body when fasting. So on the day the fast is broken it is a good idea to take a gentle laxative consisting of 50-50 warm milk and water, with some rock candy to sweeten it. Generally 4-5 cups are drunk (up to 7) and within half an hour to an hour one will expel the faeces.

Alternatively before fasting one can practice one of the Shatkarmas Laghoo shankaprakshalana, intestinal cleansing with warm salty water combined with exercises that wash into every pocket of the intestines, which gently clears out the whole digestive system, leaving the body feeling bright and wholesome; then, fasting is very easy indeed.

Nirjala Ekadashi: -
In all, 24 Ekadashi fasts are observed in a year, but there are some Ekadashi that are relatively of greater significance. Nirjala Ekadashi, observed on the Ekadashi day (11th day) of the bright fortnight of Jyaishtha (May-June) is one of these. Not only do people refrain from eating food on this day, but also water. In India the month of Jyaistha is very hot and the days are long, and so observing fast, without even taking a drop of water from dawn to dusk means a great act of piety and austerity. Ekadashi vow and vigil enhances mental equipoise, tolerance and spiritual powers.

Being near to God: - The Sanskrit word for fast is ' upa-vaas ', which means staying close to God. The original concept of fasting entailed a deviation from the normal lifestyle and devoting one day to introspection. The fasting person was supposed to distance himself from the trivia of day-to-day life and think only about God. As any worldly pleasure would distract him from this purpose, he was supposed to follow a simple routine. Hence, rich food was avoided and a simple diet was taken to sustain the body. The intention was neither to starve the body nor to indulge it.

Mantras can be used to help keep the mind’s attention on inner goodness in whatever way you sense it. During Ekadashi you might try chanting this powerful Vishnu mantra:
om namo bhagavate vaasudevaaya
Or you could chant the Hare Krishna mantra since Krishna and Vishnu are one
and the same.
Or chant with meditative attention on different areas of the body: -

Lotus Feet: Om Damodaraya Namah

Thighs: Om Madhavaya Namah
Private Parts: Om Kamapataye Namah

Hips:Om Vamanaya Namah

Navel: Om Padmanabhaya Namah

Stomach: Om Vishvamutaye Namah

Heart: Om Jnanagamyaya Namah

Throat: Om Srikanthaya Namah

Arms: Om Sahasrabahave Namah

Lotus Eyes: Om Paramayogine Namah

Forehead: Om Urugayai Namah

Nose: Om Narakeshvaraya Namah

Hair: Om Sarvakamadaya Namah

Head: Om Sahasrashirshaya Namah

The Vishnu Puran and the Markandeya Puran gives detailed description of the benefits resulting from the observance of Ekadashi vrata.

A NEEDLE CAN SAVE THE LIFE OF A STROKE PATIENT

A NEEDLE CAN SAVE THE LIFE OF A STROKE PATIENT – From a Chinese professor. Keep a syringe or needle in your home to do this... It's amazing and an unconventional way of recovering from stroke, read it through it can help somebody one day. This is amazing. Please keep this very handy. Excellent tips. Do take a minute to read this. You'll never know, ones life may depend on you.

When stroke strikes, the capillaries in the brain will gradually burst." (Irene Liu) When a stroke occurs, stay calm. No matter where the victim is, do not move him/her. Because, if moved, the capillaries will burst. Help the victim to sit up where he/she is to prevent him/her from falling over again and then the blood letting can begin. If you have in your home an injection syringe that would be the best. Otherwise, a sewing needle or a straight pin will do.

1. Place the needle/pin over fire to sterilize it and then use it to prick the tip of all 10 fingers.
2. There are no specific acupuncture points, just prick about an mm from the fingernail.
3. Prick till blood comes out.
4. If blood does not start to drip, then squeeze with your fingers.
5. When all 10 digits is bleeding, wait a few minutes then the victim will regain consciousness. 6. If the victim's mouth is crooked, then pull on his ears until they are red.
7. Then prick each earlobe twice until two drops of blood comes from each earlobe. After a few minutes the victim should regain consciousness. Wait till the victim regain his normal state without any abnormal symptoms then take him to the hospital.
Otherwise, if he was taken in the ambulance in a hurry to the hospital, the bumpy trip will cause all the capillaries in his brain to burst. If he could save his life, barely managing to walk, then it is by the grace of his ancestors.

On the other hand, the usual stroke victim usually suffers irreparable bursting of the brain capillaries on the way to the hospital. As a result, these victims never recover." (Irene Liu) Therefore, stroke is the second cause of death. The lucky ones will stay alive but can remain paralyzed for life. It is such a horrible thing to happen in ones life. If we can all remember this blood letting method and start the life saving process immediately, in a short time, the victim will be revived and regain 100% normality.

Note : Pasting it from a forwarded mail... better confirm before u try.

Importance of Water

DRINK WATER - EMPTY STOMACH

It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately after waking up every morning.
Furthermore, scientific tests have proven a its value. We publish below a description
of use of water for our readers. For old and serious diseases as well as modern
illnesses the water treatment had been found successful by a Japanese Medical
Society as a 100% cure for the following diseases:

Headache, body ache, heart system, arthritis, f ast heart beat, epilepsy,
excess fatness, bronchitis asthma, TB, meningitis, kidney and urine
diseases, vomiting, gastritis, diarrhea, piles, diabetes, constipation, all
eye diseases, womb, cancer and menstrual disorders, ear nose and throat
diseases .

METHOD OF TREATMENT

01. As you wake up in the morning before brushing teeth, drink 4 x 160ml
glasses of water

02. Brush and clean the mouth but do not eat or drink anything for 45 minute

03. After 45 minutes you may eat and drink as normal.

04. After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch and dinner do not eat or drink anything
for 2 hours

05. Those who are old or sick and are unable to drink 4 glasses of water at the
beginning may commence by taking little water and gradually increase it to
4 glasses per day.

06. The above method of treatment will cure diseases of the sick and others can
enjoy a healthy life.

The following list gives the number of days of treatment required to cure/control/reduce
main diseases:

01. High Blood Pressure - 30 days
02. Gastric - 10 days
03. Diabetes - 30 days
04. Constipation - 10 days
05. Cancer - 180 days
06. TB - 90 days
07. Arthritis patients should follow the above treatment only for 3 days in the 1st week,
and from 2nd week onwards - daily.

* This treatment method has no side effects, however at the commencement of treatment
you may have to urinate a few times.
* It is better if we continue this and make this procedure as a routine work in our life.
* Drink Water and Stay healthy and Active.

* This makes sense...The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals....not cold water.
Maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain...
* For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you.
* It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily
stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this "sludge" reacts with
the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line
the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or
warm water after a meal.

* A serious note about heart attacks: Women should know that not every heart attack symptom
is going to be the left arm hurting.
* Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.
* You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack.
* Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.
* 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up.
* Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more
we know, the better chance we could survive...
* A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this mail sends it to everyone they know, you can be
sure that we'll save at least one life.

Mobile - Be Careful

Important news for us, read it carefully.

1 Egg
2 Mobiles
65 minutes of connection between mobiles.
We assembled something as per image:

Initiated the call between the two mobiles and allowed 65 minutes approximately...
During the first 15 minutes nothing happened;
25 minutes later the egg started getting hot;
45 minutes later the egg is hot;
65 minutes later the egg is cooked.

Conclusion: The immediate radiation of the mobiles has the potential to modify the proteins of the egg. Imagine what it can do with the proteins of your brains when you do long calls.
Please try to reduce long time calls on mobile phones and pass this mail to all your friends you care for.

Microwave - Be careful

A 26-year old decided to have a cup of coffee. He took a cup of water and put it in the microwave to heat it up (something that he had done numerous times before). I am not sure how long he set the timer for, but he told me he wanted to bring the water to a boil When the timer shut the oven off, he removed the cup from the oven. As he looked into the cup, he noted that the water was not boiling, but instantly the water in the cup "blew up" into his face. The cup remained intact until he threw it out of his hand but all the water had flown out into his face due to the build up of energy. His whole face is blistered and he has 1st and 2nd degree burns to his face, which may leave scarring. He also may have lost partial sight in his left eye. While at the hospital, the doctor who was attending to him stated that this is fairly common occurrence and water (alone) should never be heated in a microwave oven. If water is heated in this manner, something should be placed in the cup to diffuse the energy such as: a wooden stir stick, tea bag, etc. It is however a much safer choice to boil the water in a teakettle. General

Electric's ( GE) response: Thanks for contacting us. I will be happy to assist you. The e-mail that you received is correct. Micro waved water and other liquids do not always bubble when they reach the boiling point. They can actually get superheated and not bubble at all. The superheated liquid will bubble up out of the cup when it is moved or when something like a spoon or tea bag is put into it. To prevent this from happening and causing injury, do not heat any liquid for more than two minutes per cup. After heating, let the cup stand in the microwave for thirty seconds before moving it or adding anything into it. If you pass this on ... you could very well save someone from a lot of pain and suffering.
